Walk Next Sunday (14 July)

Walk Name: Great Knoutberry Hill, from Dent Station
Approximate Distance: 6 miles
Approximate Total Ascent: 1600 feet
Approximate walk time: 4 hours
Grade: Moderate
Description: Starting from Dent Station we head up the hill along Coal Rd, turning off to follow a bridleway. Soon there is a choice: either continue along the fairly level path, or a decent climb up Great Knoutberry Hill (spectacular views). We can split into 2 groups if necessary. The 2 routes re-join, and we enter Arten Gill, leading to the magnificent Arten Gill Viaduct. We then go through the pretty hamlet of Stonehouse, where Dent marble used to be cut and polished. The road follows the river until we turn right and climb the hill back to the station. There are several cafes in Dent itself, about 4 miles away.
Meeting time and place: Currys car park, Lancaster, at 9.30 am or Dent Station car park (LA10 5RF) at 10.30 am.
Contact: Steve and Barbara 01524 66867, 07947 193234 or shackletons@btinternet.com by 8.00 pm Friday so that lifts can be organised.
